Office of Student Life

Amanda (AJ) Johnson

About AJ:

Professional Interests:

Connecting our office with the community here at OSU. So many students don’t know about us, or if they do, they are not fully aware of what we can do for them. What we really are trying to do is create an equitable environment, and in that will not happen in a vacuum. Different students are going to have different needs, even if they have the same disability, and accommodations will vary from student to student for that reason. The more we connect within the community here, the better equipped we will be to facilitate those needs, and the more empowered students will become.

Liaison Roles:

I am the Administrative Assistant and Office Manager at SLDS. Additionally, I work as the Student Supervisor for the OAs at the front desk, and I am Director Cheryl Lyons' assistant.

Educational Background:

I have a bachelor's degree from Ohio University (Athens), and I am ESL-certified.

 Personal Interests:

Art, Travel, Literature, History, and Cultural Exchange.

Fun Facts:

What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite books are a tough one—I usually just say the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series.

Where is your favorite place in the world?
My favorite place in the world is a shrine in the mountains of Japan. To this day it’s the most magical place I’ve ever been.

What is your favorite quote?

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”- Eleanor Roosevelt, but I’m really quoting the Princess Diaries.

What volunteer or passion projects do you do outside of work?

I enjoy embroidery, playing PokemonGo, and traveling—even if it’s just in Ohio.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Good things take time. It’s okay to go at your own pace, and nothing is *that* serious. Learning and practicing patience is one of the most fulfilling virtues I’ve come to cultivate and deeply appreciate.
